The Festival is an important fundraiser for the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre's services. The Centre uses the funds raised for a range of community activities including childcare, information resources, English classes, multicultural services, advocacy and information and referral services for all members of the community, especially those in need.

The Festival caters to a diverse audience, with a strong live music, family, multicultural and youth focus. As well as a fundraiser, the festival plays an important community development role and has many cultural benefits. It provides an arena for local artists and artisans by stimulating and supporting cultural activity.

The Festival also enhances local businesses in the area by promoting the area to greater Sydney, and facilitates a positive relationship with residents, businesses and Council.

Festival audiences are entertained throughout the day with live music across several entertainment areas. The market stalls are diverse, inviting Festival goers to browse through the bazaar alleys, to engage with local artisans or to enjoy something sumptuous from the international food areas and much more.
